Before you book: practical notes from our guides
- Route direction
- We normally head out along the Atlantic side — Hout Bay and Chapman’s Peak Drive — and return along False Bay through Simon’s Town, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg. The order can flex with weather and your group’s pace.
- If Chapman’s Peak is closed
- The toll road can close in high wind, heavy rain or after rockfall. We then route via Ou Kaapse Weg, so the rest of the day stays intact.
- Boulders Beach timing
- We usually reach the penguin colony after Cape Point, when parking and the boardwalks have eased. Viewing is from raised boardwalks.
- Walking and the funicular
- At Cape Point a short, uphill walk leads to the old lighthouse lookout. The Flying Dutchman Funicular (R115 return per adult, paid separately) is optional and saves the climb.
- Weather
- Cape Point is more exposed than the city and usually cooler and windier. Bring a windproof layer and sun protection year-round.
- Entrance fees and lunch
- The tour price covers your private vehicle and guide. Reserve and Boulders entry, the optional funicular, lunch, drinks and gratuities are paid on the day.
- Pace and families
- It is your group only, so stops, walking and timings adjust to you — which suits families and slower walkers.
- Pickup
- Door-to-door pickup and drop-off at your Cape Town accommodation, roughly nine hours in total.

Cape Town hotel pickup
Your private Cape Peninsula day begins at your Cape Town hotel or central guesthouse.
We collect you from your Cape Town hotel or central guesthouse and head out along the Atlantic Seaboard. Leaving early matters on this route: it puts you at Cape Point before the mid-morning tour-bus arrivals and keeps the whole Peninsula loop relaxed rather than rushed.

Camps Bay & the Twelve Apostles
A classic Atlantic Seaboard introduction beneath the Twelve Apostles.
The first stretch runs below the Twelve Apostles buttresses past Camps Bay's Blue Flag beaches — the classic Cape Town coastal introduction, and the best early-morning light of the day for photographs looking back at the mountain chain.

Hout Bay — quick coffee & views
A brief leg stretch and coffee opportunity overlooking Hout Bay Beach.
Enjoy a quick coffee stop at The Dunes Restaurant, overlooking Hout Bay Beach. Stretch your legs, take in the beach and mountain views, and enjoy a coffee before we continue along the Cape Peninsula.

Chapman's Peak Drive
Cliff-edge viewpoints above the Atlantic on one of the world's great coastal roads.
The toll road runs between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. It can close in high wind, heavy rain or after rockfall; if that happens we route via Ou Kaapse Weg instead, which keeps the day intact.

Cape of Good Hope
The famous south-western Cape landmark, surrounded by fynbos and open coastline.
Inside the reserve we head to the Cape of Good Hope sign at the south-western tip of the Peninsula, with fynbos, ostriches, baboons and antelope often visible along the reserve road.

Stop 5
Cape Point & the old lighthouse
Walk or take the optional funicular to the old lighthouse lookout above two coastlines.
A short walk or the Flying Dutchman funicular, paid separately, takes you to the old lighthouse lookout. Cape Point is exposed and usually windier than the city, so a windproof layer is worth carrying even in midsummer.

Boulders Beach penguins
See the African penguin colony from the boardwalks at Simon's Town.
Crossing to the False Bay side, we visit the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach on the boardwalks above the sheltered granite coves. We normally arrive after Cape Point, when parking and boardwalks have eased.

Kalk Bay & Muizenberg
Follow False Bay home through the harbour village and past Muizenberg's bathing boxes.
The homeward run follows the False Bay shoreline through Kalk Bay and past the painted bathing boxes at Muizenberg, with time for a photo stop before we drop you back at your accommodation.

Two landmarks, one reserve
Cape Point vs Cape of Good Hope
Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope are different places a few minutes apart inside the same nature reserve. Cape Point is the high rocky promontory crowned by the old lighthouse. The Cape of Good Hope is the low south-western tip with the well-known sign. This tour visits both.
Neither is Africa's southernmost point — that is Cape Agulhas, covered on our Cape Agulhas day tour.
False Bay wildlife
Boulders Beach Penguins
Boulders Beach at Simon's Town is one of the few places where visitors can stand metres from a breeding colony of African penguins. Viewing is from raised boardwalks above sheltered granite coves. The colony is wild, so numbers vary through the day and year.

Atlantic Seaboard
Chapman's Peak Drive
Chapman's Peak Drive is the scenic spine of the Atlantic side of the Peninsula, a toll road cut into the cliff between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. It can close at short notice for strong wind, heavy rain or rockfall. When it does, your guide crosses via Ou Kaapse Weg instead without removing Cape Point or Boulders Beach from the day.
