    About the route

The Table Mountain Hike via Platteklip Gorge is the most direct and historic route to the summit of Cape Town's most famous landmark. Cut into a natural cleft in the front face of the mountain, the trail rises steeply for around 700 metres of vertical gain, opening to wide city views the whole way up.

Our guided Table Mountain hiking tour pairs you with a private mountain guide, includes hotel pickup within the central Cape Town pickup area, so you can focus on the views and the experience. Cableway tickets for the descent are paid separately.

After hotel pickup we drive up Kloof Nek to the Platteklip trailhead on Tafelberg Road. Your guide runs a short safety brief, checks your gear and sets a steady pace suited to your fitness.

The ascent is a stone staircase carved into the mountain — sustained, not technical. You'll stop regularly for water, photos and a few stories about the mountain's history. As you climb, the bowl of the city, Lion's Head and the Atlantic Seaboard unfold below.

At the top we explore the plateau, walk to the western cliffs for the best photos, and normally descend by cable car (ticket paid separately; weather dependent). You're typically back in the city in time for a late lunch.
