What this paddle is about
Have you always dreamed of paddling the legendary Miller's Run but thought you needed years of training or specialist downwind experience? With South African Adventures, you can experience this iconic Cape Town downwind surfski route alongside an experienced guide in a remarkably stable double surfski.
You don't need to be an expert downwind paddler for guide-assisted tandem participation. If you're reasonably fit, active, comfortable in open water and able to swim and follow safety instructions, you may be suitable. Prior paddling experience is helpful but not necessarily essential; every guest is assessed before confirmation.
Miller's Run remains a specialist open-ocean downwind route, not a beginner-level crossing. Our guided doubles make the experience accessible to suitable visitors without asking them to tackle the technical aspects alone. You actively paddle — this is not a passive sightseeing ride.
Current preview prices remain proposed pending commercial approval. Two guests without downwind experience may each need a separate double surfski and experienced guide. We do not promise one guide per guest at the displayed group price: availability, suitability, guiding and equipment arrangements and final pricing are confirmed in advance, with any additional requirements clearly quoted before confirmation.
Your day on the water

An 80th birthday Miller's Run bucket-list paddle
An 80-year-old guest fulfilled his dream of completing Miller's Run with experienced guiding and suitable equipment. He had not paddled before — a reminder of what can be possible with the right support.
You're Never Too Old to Chase an Adventure. Miller's Run isn't just for elite athletes: active older guests may be suitable for a stable guided double surfski, assessed individually for fitness, swimming ability and the conditions.
This guest's story is not a guarantee of suitability for everyone. All participation remains subject to the operator's minimum-age and safety requirements and the guide's assessment; hazardous sea conditions are not appropriate for inexperienced guests.
An 80th-birthday bucket-list paddle from Miller's Point to Fish Hoek — individual suitability and ocean conditions remain essential.
Guided Double Surfski — No Previous Downwind Experience Required: suitable guests paddle alongside an experienced downwind guide in a stable double surfski. The guide assists with steering, ocean navigation, wave selection, timing and the technical aspects throughout the run; you participate actively in paddling.
Guided Single Surfski — Experienced Paddlers: experienced surfski paddlers may use a suitable single surfski with a professional guide, subject to appropriate open-water competence, remounting ability and experience for the planned route and conditions.
The guest's experience, equipment and guiding arrangement are established before confirmation. We fit the craft and PFD, explain the safety equipment and brief the conditions before launching. The usual route runs from Miller's Point to Fish Hoek in suitable south-easterly conditions, with the guide selecting appropriate lines and landing arrangements.
