    Boat-Based Whale Watching in Hermanus

Hermanus is one of South Africa's most famous whale watching destinations and is known worldwide for seasonal Southern Right whale sightings along the Cape Whale Coast. A boat-based whale watching trip gives guests the opportunity to experience whales and marine life from the water while enjoying views of Walker Bay, the Hermanus coastline and surrounding mountains.

The trip is ideal for families, couples, international travellers, photographers and nature lovers wanting a closer ocean-based whale watching experience. Marine wildlife is wild and sightings can never be guaranteed, but Hermanus and Walker Bay are well known for excellent whale watching during the annual whale season.

    Whale Season in Hermanus

The Hermanus whale watching season runs from June to mid-December, with the peak Southern Right whale viewing period from July to November. September and October typically offer the most reliable sightings as whales gather in Walker Bay to calve and mate.

Outside of peak season, sightings become less frequent and trips may be paused or limited.

    Weather Dependency

Boat trips are fully weather and sea-state dependent. The skipper has final authority on whether a trip can safely operate.

If a trip is cancelled due to weather, we will offer an alternative time, a new date, or a refund where applicable. We always communicate changes as early as possible.
