Why Gansbaai matters for marine wildlife
The narrow channel between Dyer Island (60,000 Cape fur seals) and Geyser Rock — Shark Alley — concentrates more great white sharks per square kilometre than anywhere else on earth. Add bronze whaler and copper sharks, southern right whales (June–November), humpbacks, dolphins, African penguins and Cape fur seals, and you have the densest, most accessible marine wildlife site in southern Africa.
