Solid cardio fitness needed for the sustained climb. The trail is well-maintained with no scrambling, so it's a good first big Cape Town hike.
Heights & scrambling: Sustained climb with no scrambling; the optional Diving Board detour sits above steep drops.
Duration shown is the published total including transfers; walking time varies with pace and conditions.
The Kasteelspoort Hike is widely considered the most scenic route up Table Mountain. It climbs through a natural pass in the Twelve Apostles ridge, with continuously expanding views of Camps Bay, Clifton and the Atlantic Ocean.
It's quieter than Platteklip Gorge, with a more wilderness feel, and connects to the famous Diving Board photo spot at the top.
We meet at the Theresa Avenue trailhead above Camps Bay. After a short briefing, the trail starts climbing through fynbos with the ocean already in view behind you.
The middle section is a steady switchback up the pass — you're walking through the mountain itself. Near the top, an optional detour brings you to the Diving Board, a flat rock platform jutting out over the abyss.
From the top of Kasteelspoort you can either descend the same route at a relaxed pace, or extend the hike to the cableway summit and ride down.
Meet, brief and start the hike from above Camps Bay.
Steady ascent with constantly opening Atlantic views.
Walk through the gap in the Twelve Apostles ridge.
Optional short walk to the iconic photo platform.
Return the same way or continue to the cableway.
All hikes are weather dependent. The guide may change the route, start time or cancel the hike if conditions are unsafe. Guests must advise fitness level, age group, medical conditions, fear of heights and any mobility concerns before booking.
